Project Details
We were engaged by KRP Consulting Engineers to design and specify concrete repairs and waterproofing to an existing reinforced concrete pool shell, into which a new 50m Olympic Length outdoor swimming pool was to be constructed. The original pool shell comprised a Victorian tank of reinforced concrete construction tanked internally with asphalt. This original tank was subsequently lined in the 1960’s with a reinforced concrete liner. The structure had deteriorated due to long term leakage both into and out of the pool, through service penetrations, cracks and movement joints.
The remedial design included a new reinforced concrete retaining wall, which was installed to define the reduced length of the new pool as well as a suite of concrete patch repairs, remedial works to existing movement joints and a cementitious flexible waterproof slurry coat.
The pool base was piled, movement joints locked up and sealed, a new ground slab constructed and the existing walls increased in height.
