Project Details

Inspections of below ground wet and dry ducts that run around the perimeter of the swimming pool at South Reading Leisure Centre identified extensive corrosion induced spalling of the reinforced concrete elements forming the duct structure. The most notable damage was found to be on the wet duct side of the dividing walls between the two duct systems.

A suite of concrete repairs was designed by OSC to remediate the damage. The repair system comprised proprietary hand placed repair mortars and micro-concretes for shutter and pour repairs. Sacrificial anodes were incorporated into the repairs to provide extra protection to the reinforcement in the parent concrete around the edges of the repair sites.

On completion of the repairs, the entire duct system was treated with a fairing coat and an elastomeric water proofer was applied to bolster the resistance of the repaired structure.
